Exploring narratives through the lens, Sheryl Campbell’s photography invites you to engage with critical conversations about societal issues. Her aim is to stimulate debate and discussion in parallel with the contemporary #MeToo movement in NZ.
After an extensive career in news and commercial photography, Sheryl took on a Master of Creative Practice Degree through Unitec, Auckland, graduating with first class honours.
Presently Sheryl’s artivist practice investigates problematic behaviours from a feminist perspective using photobooks as the medium.
Her latest photobook, Cherryblond, will be featured in an article in Art NZ’s magazine 2025 Autumn issue titled, ‘Holding Out for More’. Writer, Mary Macpherson asserts, “The blend between fact and fiction helps give the book a goofy humour that animates both its text and theatrical photographs, which also have an affinity with today’s selfies and posed social media images.” She adds,” this is a storytelling photobook, almost a photo novel. Sheryl is one of New Zealand’s more original photobook makers.”
